Family Travel Destinations
Here’s every place we’ve taken our kids, all in one spot. Start here to land on one of our destination guides. We’ll show you the trips we took, when to go, and where we stayed , and also tell you what we loved, what we didn’t, and how to make it all work for families.
Are you planning a long weekend? We rocked Hawaii in just 72 hours. Is Spring Break coming up? Ski Whistler, Sun Valley, or the Japanese Alps, or take the kids to Machu Picchu. Are you looking for big-time adventure? Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way and Iceland’s south coast are waiting. Scroll down by region or jump directly to the part of the world that’s interesting to you.
Rather plan around a specific kind of trip? National parks are some of our favorites here at AftT and you can’t go wrong with visits to any of them. If your kids love roller coasters, our theme parks run from Orlando to Cedar Point to Disneyland Paris. Ski trips have been our spring break tradition for years, and our UNESCO page maps every World Heritage Site we’ve visited.

Our home turf, and where we spend a lot of time exploring. A lot of these adventures were school break road trips from Oklahoma, and plenty of them started with a national park. Find your favorite region and start there, or scroll down for destinations abroad.

North America with kids
Canada, Mexico and the Caribbean
You’ll find Whistler for a spring break ski week, Los Cabos for an all-inclusive, stress-free beach week, and St. John views of Virgin Islands National Park. Stay tuned for more destinations.
Europe with kids
Europe
Europe started with London, Paris, and Dublin in 2015, and they keep pulling us back in. Since then we’ve done Scotland by steam train, ten days on Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, a spring break in Athens, Iceland’s south coast, and a train trip from Amsterdam to Disneyland Paris with stops in Belgium and Luxembourg.

Asia with kids
Asia
Japan is our only stop in Asia so far, but we’re planning a trip back in 2027. Our first visit was a spring break ski trip to the Japanese Alps. We skied Hakuba, visited the snow monkeys at Jigokudani, and spent time in Tokyo. It was one of the most fun trips we’ve ever taken.
South America with kids
South America
Peru is our only South American visit so far, and in all of our travels, Peru is the country that really surprised us. It knocked our socks off with its hospitality, food, and natural beauty. Machu Picchu is the rock star of course, but spend some time in and around the Sacred Valley too. Peru is a cultural powerhouse and a lovely country to visit.

National parks with kids
National parks
These are some of our favorite trips anywhere. The Every Kid Outdoors pass sent us to park after park, and we haven’t stopped. We’ve written guides to 30 national parks so far (visited 46), plus a stack of monuments and historic sites in our #ParkPics series.
Ski trips with kids
Ski trips
Skiing turned into our spring break tradition. Park City was our first family ski trip, back when it was still Canyons Resort, and we’ve since skied Whistler, Winter Park, Purgatory, Sun Valley, and the Japanese Alps. Stay tuned for more family-friendly ski destinations!
Theme parks with kids
Theme parks
We’ve never met a roller coaster we didn’t like (although Cedar Point’s Top Thrill Dragster had us second guessing). Walt Disney World Resort is our family’s pick in Orlando, and Volcano Bay is our favorite water park. Some other awesome parks we’ve been to are King’s Island, Legoland San Diego (great for little tykes), Disneyland Paris, Dollywood, Knott’s Berry Farm, several Six Flags Parks and some favorites close to home, Frontier City and Silver Dollar City.
UNESCO sites with kids
UNESCO World Heritage Sites
We didn’t plan it this way, but a lot of our trips have landed on World Heritage Sites. Machu Picchu, Stonehenge, and Edinburgh’s Old Town are all on UNESCO’s list. So are the Giant’s Causeway and Iceland’s Thingvellir. They’re great places for kids to see history and nature up close, and our map shows every site we’ve visited and helps you plan your next UNESCO adventure.
