We’re a family travel blog, not a data company. This page explains what Along for the Trip collects when you visit, why we collect it, and how to reach us about it.

The short version
What we collect and why
Most of the time you’re just reading, and we only see the kind of information every website sees. We collect more only when you choose to give it to us.
When you read the blog
Our server and Google Analytics record basic visit information. That includes your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, and the site that sent you here. We look at it as totals, like which guides get read the most, so we know what to write next. We don’t use it to figure out who you are.
When you join our newsletter
We get the email address (and first name, if you add it) you sign up with. Our email service, Kit, stores it and sends our newsletters. Kit also tells us whether an email was opened and which links were clicked. Every email has an unsubscribe link at the bottom.
When you leave a comment
We keep the name, email address, and website you enter. Your name, website, and comment show publicly. Your email address never does. If you have a Gravatar account, your profile picture appears next to your comment, and comments are run through an automatic spam check.
When you email us
We keep what you send so we can reply. That’s all we use it for.
Keeping the site safe
Our security software logs the IP address of visits so it can block attacks and protect the login page.
Affiliate links
How we keep the blog running
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and book or buy something, we may earn a small commission. It costs you nothing extra, and it helps us keep writing. We only link to gear and services we’d use ourselves, and posts with affiliate links say so.
When you click an affiliate link, the company or its affiliate network sets a cookie so the sale gets credited to us. The networks we work with include Amazon Associates, CJ, Rakuten Advertising, Awin, Partnerize, and Impact.
As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases.
Once you land on another company’s site, its own privacy policy applies. The same goes for the Google maps and videos we embed on some pages, which can set their own cookies.
Your choices

You can unsubscribe from our emails anytime using the link in any newsletter.
You can also ask us to send you a copy of the information we have about you, fix it, or delete it. Just email us at info@alongforthetrip.com. Depending on where you live (the EU, the UK, California, and some other states), the law gives you these rights. We’re happy to honor them for everyone.
We keep newsletter details until you unsubscribe and comments until you ask us to remove them. We may hold on to a little information when the law requires it.
A note about kids
We write about traveling with kids, but this site is written for parents. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think your child sent us something, email us and we’ll delete it.

Using our content
The words and photos on Along for the Trip are ours. Sharing a link or pinning a photo that links back to us is great. If you’d like to use our content anywhere else, please email us and ask first.
Everything here comes from our own trips and opinions, and it was accurate when we wrote it. Prices, hours, and rules change, so check with the park, hotel, or tour company before you go. We don’t run any of the businesses we write about and can’t be responsible for them, or for the other websites we link to.
