Welcome to Along for the Trip! We’re Carrie and Carrick, and we’re experiencing the world with our two kids. We’re a family of four living in Oklahoma, and we’d like to share our passion for family travel with you. We think that travel is one of the greatest ways to teach your kids, and that experiencing the world through your child’s eyes is a special and rewarding experience.

Carrie and I both traveled some in high school and in college, but Carrie was the more experienced traveler, having traveled to Spain and Austria. After we got married and had kids, we started taking small road trips. It didn’t take long to realize that traveling with the kids was So. Much. Fun! Now, we’re passionate about traveling as a family whenever our schedules allow. We’ve been to several countries now, including Ireland, UK, France, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and more to come this year, so stay tuned!

There are a lot of travel blogs out there, and you likely read several just like we do. They all have their own niche, but we want to show you that traveling with your kids is fun, exciting, and inspirational. It doesn’t haven’t to be a chore or a big, long argument, with bit of sightseeing sprinkled in. It can be so much better. It doesn’t have to be nomadic, or lengthy, or exotic. We’re busy with life just like everyone else. We just try to make it work.

We’ve done Disney. And Branson (a lot). They are a blast, and we plan on sharing some of our favorite things about those places. But when you start traveling deeper, maybe to another country, or just outside of your comfort zone, it gets infinitely more rewarding. When you share it with your kids, it becomes unforgettable! As a parent, you just can’t go wrong with traveling with your kids. Even on the not-so-good days, it’s better than sitting at home. The more unique the experience, the better you’ll be for it.

Why We Created Along for the Trip

As we get started here with AlongForTheTrip.com, we’re really just trying to capture our thoughts and share them with friends and family. We love to share our pictures and stories, and we’d love to encourage others to follow their travel dreams and aspirations. We want to hear about your best (and worst) travel experiences. We’re going to focus on traveling as a family, and we’ll share what works for us and what doesn’t. We’ll get into everything from the best putt-putt course in Branson, to our favorite food in Philly, to the best unplanned day trip in Dublin, and Bastille Day in Paris. We’ll probably talk about our gear, travel planning, favorite resources, and favorite airplanes, too. If the blog brings in a little income that helps us see the world with our kids, great! Most of all, we’re just here to have fun!

Paris with Kids is Awesome.

I hope that we can inspire you in some way to get out there and travel. If you don’t have kids, travel anyway. We started traveling because it was fun. What we’re realizing is that it’s also an investment in our children’s education. We’re creating lifelong memories. We’re creating bonds that will last forever and teaching our kids how to become good global citizens.

A Small Idea Can Become A Much Bigger One

I remember the day we turned in our applications for the kids’ passports. It was the same excitement that I felt when I applied for mine. I was excited for them knowing what adventures awaited them. We want you to know that same feeling.  So take that step, and start dreaming about your next trip. That’s what we did, and now it’s all we think about! Solo travel is fun, sure.  Traveling as a couple is great. Taking your kids along for the trip? Well, there’s nothing in the world I’d trade for it.

We went camping in our area when our son was little. We started skiing in Colorado at several different places when he was around 6 or 7. After our second child was born we went to Disney World. You are right, traveling with your kids is priceless! I would like to think we planted the traveling bug in our kids even though we never went very far.

Thanks Mom! I loved all of it! We’re actually thinking about skiing Winter Park next year, which would kind of bring everything full circle, wouldn’t it?
